Community Compass

A Path Forward

Helping Individuals and Families on the South Shore Navigate Toward Stability, Opportunity, and Hope

For more than 60 years, SSCAC has served as a trusted community compass – helping thousands of individuals and families navigate toward financial stability, opportunity, and lasting progress. SSCAC is often the first call, the steady guide, and a safe harbor on the journey toward brighter futures.

Our core programs provide essential support in areas like energy assistance, transportation, early education, nutrition, housing stability, and family services. But true progress requires more than meeting immediate needs.

That is the purpose of the SSCAC Community Compass.

The SSCAC Community Compass is our innovation and opportunity fund - providing flexible resources that allow SSCAC to respond when needs change and opportunities emerge. Real life does not operate on a grant cycle. When a family faces an unexpected utility shutoff, when transportation barriers threaten access to medical care or employment, or when a new community need emerges faster than traditional funding can respond, our neighbors cannot afford to wait.

By supporting the Community Compass, you help SSCAC act at the speed of need

Agile Response

The flexibility to respond quickly when community needs shift and remove barriers before small crises become long-term setbacks.

Connect Pathways

Coordinated services that help individuals and families more easily navigate resources, build on their strengths, and move steadily toward their goals.

Innovation With Purpose

The ability to test new ideas, strengthen partnerships, and improve service delivery.

Lasting Opportunity

Long-term investments that go beyond emergency assistance to help create a resilient, thriving South Shore community where individuals, families, and future generations have the tools to flourish.

Why It Matters

Thousands of individuals and families turn to SSCAC each year for support navigating financial hardship and life’s unexpected challenges. While grants and contracts fund many essential services, they often cannot cover emerging needs, service gaps, innovation, technology, outreach, or rapid-response solutions.

SSCAC’s Community Compass strengthens the foundation behind every service we provide, ensuring our neighbors receive support when they need it most. It helps bridge the gaps where traditional funding often falls short and creates the flexibility needed to pilot forward-thinking solutions that can transform lives and strengthen communities.
